side note to last nights post

I went to bed last night after I posted that last post, and was hoping that it was readable and understandable. I was SO tired when I wrote it. So, if it doesn't make sense, sorry. I should have added that Calvin has to eat 55cc's worth of milk before he can go home. (when I was talking about him taking a bottle before he can leave)...30cc's=1 ounce. I feel SO educated this week! I never knew an ounce could get smaller. But I am an artist, and quit honestly want nothing to do with the health care area. I am considering making blankets to donate. They really need blankets up there!

Our moms are leaving this morning. This is going to be especially ruff on Hannah. She has been the sole attention getter from them this whole week, and life has been ALL about her!!! As I say that I realize that they are here to see Calvin and help us out as well, which has been Wonderful!!!....BUT, Hannah doesn't see it that way. As she has to stay home when we go see the baby. I don't think reality has sunk in for her that there really is a baby. She got to go see him yesterday, but he was sleeping, so she didn't get to hold him. It was really a bummer too b/c she can only go once a week, and Lord willing, he wont be there next week!

We had a huge discussion yesterday over how much this week-long stay in the NICU is going to cost Blue Cross!! I think I will keep you all in suspense and then post a poll when we get the bill summary...and guesses though?

I am going up to see him in an hour, so I can update more later on. I know there were 2 things I was going to say, but I totally forgot the 2nd.

day 4

here is another picture and movie. I have some better ones now, but have not uploaded them. Stay tunned!

He is doing much better now, and the only problem he is that he is a bit "laid back" when it comes to feeding. He isn't to keen on sucking his food. Both from me or the bottle! So, it may be more like Saturday when he can come home. They say that preemies like him are about a day and 1/2 behind normal babies for every day they are in NICU. So technically he is a day and 1/2 old. Most babies can't suck that good by the second day anyway. I have to think in that perspective, which is SO SO SO hard. He is about 4 times the size of all his "roomies" there so it is hard to think of him as early. He is about 7 something pounds now. Which is still great! So, please pray that he will desire to suck his food down, we want him to come home. My milk is in now, so that will be easier for him.

this is a good one from when he was in the NICU. They have moved him to a different nursery now, and the only tube he has is his feeding line.

What a Cutie

Ooops

So, that last post I sent at 12:30am this morning...and I totally forgot to tell you about the lab results!! I was kinda tired. Anyway...his lab results came back neg. and he is fine. They are thinking that basically he just swallowed some of the fluid and that made him sick. Praise God!! Also his crp is normal now! Yeah. He should be able to come home tomorrow or Friday.

Pictures...Finally!

Hey,
Calvin got moved this evening to a different unit!! He is doing much better and they have taken out all his lines except the feeding one. I was able to feed him twice, but b/c my milk hasn't come in yet...they supplement after each feeding. He is really laid back, so feeding him is going to take some effort on our part. So, pray that he will take to nursing as soon as my milk comes in. They are thinking that he may get to come home Thursday. This is VERY good. Also pray that I can continue to recover myself. I hadn't realized until tonight how absolutely exhausting it is going to be hauling myself to the Hospital every 4 hours to feed him!!!! I may end up having to go every other feeding.

This picture cracks me up. Hannah took it of me Saturday morning. She has tried to take a picture of the baby with her "diginal" camera but it wasn't working so I let her use mine. Good thing too, b/c that was it!

We did get to hold Calvin after his bath this afternoon! And now we can hold him whenever. It is so nice. he is so much more alert now and loves to look around.

Dan took this one only minutes after he came out. As you can tell, he still has that just came out look to him(and he's not hooked up to anything yet).

Hannah got to come up Sunday morning and see him before they took him away. She is SO excited to see the baby. I had her records sent over this afternoon, so she is ok-ed to come and see him tomorrow!!

This was take either yesterday morning or last night. He isn't hooked up like this anymore though.

This is his first bath today. He didn't like it. But is is so laid back that he didn't cry too much. He doesn't have a very strong yell (yet).

This was his first bottle this afternoon. He is doing very well eating now.

More to come.

Day 2

Calvin is doing much better today!!! I went up there this morning and ended up staying there for about an hour and 1/2. He was so awake and alert I just couldn't leave!!

They are taking out his iv line today, and his cultures have come back neg for infection, so he stopped the antibiotics this morning. His breathing is way down now into the normal range, and he is much more alert now. I get to go back up there around 130pm to help give him a bath. And possibly hold him. That is the hardest part, not getting to hold him. But soon enough though.

They say he is making great recovery progress and he even took a bottle for them earlier. He drank 15cc's out of the 33, than they put the rest into his feeding line. I should be able to feed him myself by tonight(or at least try...) My milk supply is starting to come in, so I am not as stressed out anymore. I was so afraid that we would have bottle feed him right from the get go. I will still have to supplement for a while to make sure of the exact measurement of milk, but at least he will be able to nurse a little too! But either way, we are so excited for his progress and are very willing to do whatever he need us to to make life go well for him.

Dan and I get to go home tonight, and Calvin should be able to come home either Thursday or Friday! It will be hard to leave him, but he is doing so well, and it is only for a couple of days. Plus, we live less than 5 min from the hospital, so it isn't bad either. I think it will be hard explaining to Hannah, but she will survive. Rumor has it she is getting kinda anxious to see him.

I will post pictures and the best video ever(!!) tonight when we get home.

Thanks again for all your prayers. We love you all.

He's here!!

Hello,

I am just now recovered enough to send out an e-mail to you all. We are the proud parents of the cutest little baby boy ever!!!!! Calvin Moses Diffey was born Sunday June 8th at 1:46am after just 7 hours of labor. Much better than the 18 with Hannah. And yes...He is definitely one the of the best Anniversary presents one could ever ask for!! Sunday Dan and I also "celebrated" our 6th Wedding Anniversary.

Calvin was 8.3 lbs (same as Hannah) and 21in in length. He has lots of dark brown hair and chubby cheeks! They are SO cute. Please pray for him, he was admitted into the NICU here yesterday morning. During the last hour of my labor, I had a temperature, and when he came out his was 103. They think he may have contracted some mild infection from the this and the birth(which means they have no clue). He has passed all his vital tests, and is in perfect health otherwise. But he is very lethargic and wont eat. So they have upstairs and are watching him closely. As of 8pm last night he was the same. He did take a bottle for them yesterday morning at 5am. But I have not been able to feed him myself yet. This is really stressing me out too. I have pumped several times now, and am Not producing any milk. The staff says that this normal and my milk should come in soon...

We should get more results back today. It is hard to remember that he is 15 days early (b/c he is very huge) and that is part of the problem. (esp with the eating). You should see him up there in NICU compared to the other babies!! They are all little 3.2 pounders and he is way over 8. The one mom called him Fat!! I felt really sorry for her b/c her baby was 2 lbs and in a box. She couldn't even touch her baby.

As soon as we get home tomorrow, I will down load the picture and put them on here so you can see what he looks like.

Thanks again for all your prayers,

more of Friday

Ok, so we didn't make it to Dollar Tree, but we did make it to Big Lots, and bought a grill for next weekend. We are going to try to celebrate Hannah's Birthday with some of her friends before "big" Calvy makes his appearance!!
Dan and I (well...actually it was just me) discovered today that not only can he get everyone free tickets with his job, but he can get free ice, and blow up helium balloons for Hannah's party too!!!! WOW. How much is that going to save us! I am SO excited for her party this year. We are really going all out(ok...well, sort of), which is a first. But she will remember this one for a few years to come as well. I doubt that she has remembered much from the previous years.

She did really great on her tennis lesson today as well. She actually hit 1 ball over the net!!!!! And she hit several others. She definitely remembered what she had learned Monday. We are very proud of her. And, I think she was proud of herself too.

O, and Hannah almost knocked over this JUMBO inflatable pool at Big Lots this afternoon!!!! It really scared her. Lol. It was so funny to see the look on her face.

Have a great evening!!

37 1/2 weeks

No baby yet...I will try to post a little tid bit everyday now so you will have an idea when I go into labor.
Today: I got my hair cut, updated my photo book till last week, Dan and Hannah are going to play tennis again today after she is done with her rest time, and I think we may go to the Dollar Tree.
I am starting to get afraid to venture too far from the house though...so we'll see.
My twins count is up to 12.
Other than that we have been laying pretty low the past few days. It is pretty hot so we have been inside most of the time.

Sunday is our 6th Wedding Anniversary!! Yeah, I am SO excited. It seems like each year we are understanding each other more and basically just more in love than the previous! This year has been a great year for us. God has truly blessed us more than we deserve!!
We will eat Lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory. It is a tradition now, that has only been broken once(due to the fact that they didn't have one here the first year we lived here).

Have a great weekend!!

Pretty in pink

This morning, I went in for another ultrasound and they measured Calvin at 8.1lbs. So he definitely going to be healthy and big. Hannah was 8.3lbs, so maybe he'll come today and than my labor will be slightly easier...There was this older couple at the hospital waiting on the elevator with me, and he was like "should you be leaving?" LOL. I told him I was not happy to be leaving. On the other hand, I was pretty hungry at that time, and I know if they had kept me there would have been NO lunch for me today...

Happy Thursday!

first lesson

Today Hannah had her first tennis lesson. Which has resulted in a quote of the day!!

"Do I spin around every time I hit the ball?"- Dan (can you imagine if he did how funny that would look. lol)!!!!

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!! She was doing this princess spin every time she would attempt to swing at the ball. She did great though, and by the time she was done with her lesson, you could really see improvement. They are going to go play again tomorrow while I am at the Dr. I was able to get some good footage and some awesome pictures too! I'll post those soon...

Gotta go-Bible Study is here tonight and I have a lot of cleaning to do!!

Tennis

This week Hannah received her first (of many...) Birthday presents!! It is a really nice tennis racket and visor from Aunt Kara and Uncle Jimmy. There is a pink bag to go with it, but it is on backorder. She loves it!! I think her and Dan are going to go play tomorrow.

We also passed out the invitations to her Birthday party this morning at church! So she is Very excited for her Birthday now. All we need is little Brother, and we are set:)
