Apple Pie

Homemade Apple Pie!

Here is the recipe for my apple pie. It is very good. Dan always eats it all before I can have some!! His favorite part is the crust. I like the apple part. Let me know if you try it.

Heat oven to 425.

For the Filling:

Mix together - 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 6 cups sliced apples(peeled too). Then let sit while you make the crust.

Crust:

Mix together - 2 cups flour, 1 tsp. salt, 2/3 cup shortening, 4 Tbsp. water(I usually need more). gather dough together and make a ball. Then flour counter and roll out.
You may need to double crust depending on how much you like.

Put together and bake for 50-60 min. (check on it at 45 min, sometimes it gets done early)

Then enjoy with TONS of ice cream!!!

Roller Skating

While I was drying my hair the other day, I happened to turn around and check on Hannah. Much to my surprise she was roller skating. It was way to funny not to take a movie!

PhD

Guess What?

Dan got accepted into the PhD program here!!!

We have been waiting patiently for the past 4 1/2 weeks and the letter just came today. This is such a praise, because they only accept a few people each semester (into the Old Testament program)!

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I say how excited we are!!

6-Flags

Saturday we went to 6-Flags. It was so much fun. I had won 2 passes last year at Dan's Christmas party. And we only had 3 weekends left to use them. We couldn't have chosen a better weekend to go. Hannah had so much fun. We weren't sure if we should take her or not. But our 6-Flags really caters to the younger children. There were as many rides for her to go on as there were for adults. Some of the rides were closed because they were water rides. Hannah could have done the log ride. I was kinda sad to find out it was closed. She also went on a shorter kid roller coaster, But because we both rode it, there are no pictures. We thought that she would be scared on it, but she wasn't. She is definitely a wild child. We think she would have stayed there all weekend riding rides! (she wasn't happy to leave).

This is Hannah enjoying our FREE drink!! Dan couldn't get the dollar to go in the machine and one of the workers saw him and brought him this cherry coke!!

By the end of the day, Hannah wanted to ride the rides by herself. Which was ok with us. Especially Dan...because he couldn't fit into most of them. That is why you will see me with her in most of the pictures.

These 3 pictures are from the Huge Ferris wheel. It really went high. This picture above is supposed to be of down town, but I think the Super Man ride dominates it. (which is still shut down, for those of you who remember and care to know).

This was Hannah's favorite ride.
The Big Foot Monster Trucks. (it was the most lame ride there too!!!) The trucks were attached to the rail, but all the kids thought they were driving them!

These are clips of Hannah. The one below is of me and Hannah riding the Kiddie Drop. It was kinda fun...once I got in it!!!

Overall, we had a blast. It was definitely my favorite family outing yet!! The only thing to taking a 41-inch child is that you can't ride the adult rides with your spouse. And let me tell you, standing in line by yourself is NO fun. (you get weird looks) But the rides were! On the Greezed Lightnin' we were getting ready to take off, and our lap bars went up!!!! I was kinda scared! Which is rare. I love roller coasters. (it is the one that goes in a circle and up then stops and goes back through again backwards. it takes about 3 minutes maybe...Dan wouldn't ride it after I did. (I wonder why) I can't remember the last time I went to an amusement park. I hope we get to go again next year.

Happy Belated Birthday Cari!!

Bible reading-week 6

I am SO sorry that your reading is coming to you now...and not Sunday. I have been pretty busy. Also, I am a day behind, so it just occurred to me today that maybe you aren't, and that you are patiently waiting for your chapters!!

So, here they are. Also, I have combined Sunday and Monday(today).

Monday - Exodus 30-35
Tuesday - Exodus 36-38
Wednesday - Exodus 39-40
Thursday - Leviticus 1-4
Friday - Leviticus 5-7
Saturday - Leviticus 8-10
Sunday - Leviticus 11-13

Thanks for being so patient with me. I hope you are all enjoying what you are reading. I am having a wonderful time. I feel like I am learning most of this stuff for the first time. It is SO incredible how much more you can learn when you are using a Commentary. (which is partly why I am so behind!!)! And the greatest thing is that I am (still) SO excited to read my Bible each day!! I know it is because of all your prayers...and a serious commitment on my part. I praise GOD that I am still excited to read my Bible each day. I think that was what my problem has been in the past. Lack of excitement. But, let me tell you! That is definitely a problem of my past!!!

Happy reading this week.

Hannah

Here are a few random pictures of Hannah.

Hannah with Buddy Bat. She LOVES mascots. Every time we see one she runs to them and hugs them!

Memory verse

This cute clip is of Hannah practicing her memory verse. It is from last Spring, but I figured it was too cute not to put it on here for you.
I'll try to get a more current movie of her soon.

We are going to 6-Flags tomorrow, so check back for those pictures. Hannah has never been, and I am SO excited to take her.

Veg. Soup

Here
is a wonderful recipe thought I should share. Fall is definitely here, and that means more hot foods. Like Soup!!

This recipe is for 2 people. So, you should double and triple it accordingly. Also, I don't ever measure any of these items out. I just cut and cook!!

Vegetable Soup

1 can (28oz) Italian stewed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup chopped red pepper
1 onion chopped
3/4 cup green pepper
1/4 cup Basil
salt
(we add 1 cooked chicken breast cut into small pieces)

Let all the ingredients (except the chicken) come to a boil, then simmer for 20 min. After about 15 min (of the 20) put the chicken in. Let cool and eat.

Enjoy!
Let me know if you try this and what you think.

Bible reading-week 5

Here are the chapters for this weeks reading. This is definitely turning out to be a challenge for me! There are so many things for me to do...and choosing to do the right thing can be a hard decision. How about you? It is almost amazing how many other things I am being tempted with.

Sunday - Exodus 10-12
Monday - Exodus 13-15
Tuesday - Exodus 16-18
Wednesday - Exodus 19-21
Thursday - Exodus 22-24
Friday - Exodus 25-27
Saturday - Exodus 28-29

I pray that you (and I) will find the time to read and reflect on God's word this week. And that we wont be tempted to do other things.

Chicken Dinner

Tonight for Dinner we are having Chicken Patties! I told Hannah. And she told me that she didn't want a Chicken Potty!!!!!!!!!! It was hard not to laugh to long. It reminds me of the story of when I was a kid and my mom told me we were having hamburger patties. And I asked her who Patty was!
Like mother like Daughter.

This video is pretty random...But I thought you'd like it.

Enjoy!!

Make-up

Don't we all love these photos of our children? They just want to be like us!! Its just a shame they tear up the expensive make-up. I think Hannah is incapable of tearing up something that is not expensive.

Cheese Mommy!!

Aren't I the cutest Ever??

Hannah dresses herself

This was Hannah's first attempt at putting on her shirt by herself. Unfortunately due to the fact that she is an only child, we still do a lot for her. We are "trying" to get her to do more for herself. Which sometimes results in hilarious pictures!
Enjoy.

Mini Golf

Last Friday evening we went mini-golfing with our friends. It was a BLAST!! The golf course was terrible, but we were able to make it a lot of fun.

I'm not sure what to say about this picture!
(we'll make this in pink, in memory of Rich's ball)

Here is Dan and Josh trying to find Josh's ball in the bush! If I remember correctly, several of us had "issues" with our balls staying on the green...which may have been due to the terrible course. Or, maybe we just all sucked...

At any rate, it was a nice evening without children. And we really did have a blast!
We'll have to do it again, only on a different green.

Balloon Show

This past weekend Hannah and I went to the annual Balloon show here. It is so amazing to me every time.

Saturday evening we went to what is called the Balloon Glow. They have all the Balloons out and they shoot the flame in them all at once, after a big count down, and it lights up the field. It is really fun to see. It was cold that night, but as we were walking through the Balloons, it was hot!! You forgot how chilly it was until you walked to the edge of the Balloons.

This is Chuggles!! She is Hannah's favorite Balloon(3 years running now). She is the Dean's Milk cow. Actually she is the favorite of ALL the children there. I think that picture of her last year is better. There were a lot of people there this year.

ok, these aren't in order...but Friday morning we got up and went at 7:30am to the race. It is the big kick off to the weekend. It was really cool to watch. All the pilots wait until the Dean's Milk Balloon lifts off the ground and then they all blow up and take off. It all takes place in about 20 minutes and then everyone leaves. I waited longer in line to leave!!

If you look, there is a Tree Balloon in the background. They fly that Balloon up each year from Brazil!! It is HUGE...even bigger than Chuggles.

If you look at the top, you can see the side of Sugar Bear.

Hannah was obsessed with this Dog!! She kept holding his hand, and when we left she pulled his tail.

This a cute movie of Hannah at the show Saturday evening. Just click on the arrow to play it. I don't know why it isn't showing up!!
